Get summer-perfect pins

We’ve talked a lot about laser hair removal as a summer preparation treatment, but hair is not always the only thing preventing us from throwing caution to the wind and donning our hotpants. Thread veins are a common problem, and for some women they can have a very negative effect on body confidence.

What can be done about it?

Microsclerotherapy is commonly believed to be the gold standard for removing thread veins and spider veins in the legs. It involves injecting the veins with a special substance to make them swell. Over the course of a few weeks, this swelling will destroy the vein.

How long will it take?

The length of a treatment course varies from person to person, and depends on a number of factors, including the extent of the problem. Most patients who visit our London clinic require between two and six treatments. Ideally these should be spaced about a month apart, but if necessary you can come back for a repeat injection after a week.

When should I start?

If you want your legs to be thread vein free in time for summer, it’s best to start your microsclerotherapy treatment as soon as possible – for the first month or so after treatment, the veins may appear more prominent, and it will take around eight weeks for the final results to be seen.

How much improvement can I expect?

Again, this varies, but you can expect around 75% of the veins to disappear.

How long will the effects last?

The results of microsclerotherapy usually last for between six and twelve months. After your initial treatment course, it is advisable to book in for six-monthly maintenance treatments, to ensure that your legs remain picture perfect all year round.
