Not yet ready for Botox or fillers, but feel like your skin could do with a lift? You’re not alone. The waiting room of my Mayfair aesthetic clinic is filled with people just like you. City life takes its toll on even the most well-cared-for skin, and today’s hectic lifestyles mean many of us are looking older than our years even before the wrinkles start to show.
So, what can be done about it? Well, an advanced aesthetic practitioner does have a few tricks that can help give you an injection of youth without resorting to Botox…
Skin microneedling, or DermaRoller treatment, is a fantastic way to bring a bit of life back into your skin. It relies on the body’s own wound-healing mechanism, so is often seen as a very natural way to stay looking younger for longer.
The treatment involves a roller, covered in thousands of tiny, very fine needles, which are rolled gently all over your face to create thousands of tiny puncture wounds. This triggers your body to produce more collagen to heal these wounds, resulting in plumper, firmer, healthier looking skin.
The Dracula Lift
Platelet-rich plasma therapy, better known as PRP, or ‘the Dracula Lift’ is another treatment that uses the body’s own healing skills to good effect. In this treatment, blood is harvested from one part of your body, then placed in a centrifuge where the platelet-rich plasma is extracted and then injected back into your face, in several key areas.
Platelets are used in the clotting process, and release enzymes that increase wound healing. As such, the injection of this platelet-rich plasma into your skin can cause a dramatic improvement in skin health.
Less is more?
As a London cosmetic doctor, of course I believe that Botox and fillers have their place, but I also know that for some people – and particularly those who are young enough to not yet have any noticeable wrinkles – it is not necessary to inject substances into the skin. With a little knowhow (and a good cosmetic doctor!), your body can do all the hard work for you.
