According to an article in New York’s Daily News recently, one New York City doctor has begun offering a service whereby patients can call his office to make an appointment for him to come and administer Botox injections in the comfort of their own home.
The doctor also plans to offer dermal fillers and even platelet-rich plasma therapy (PRP) as house-call services.
There’s an app for that
And it’s not just this lone NYC doctor who’s offering the service. Allure magazine also recently announced the launch of a new Uber-style app, allowing patients to book at-home Botox appointments without even making a phone call.
So, is this just another example of America leading the way? Will Britain also soon be awash with doctors offering home visits to top-up your Botox?
The team here at Dr Joney de Souza Aesthetic Clinic in Mayfair thinks not, and here’s why:
Clinics are clinical
There’s a reason that injectables are usually performed in a clinical environment: by their very nature, clinics are clean environments, with all the necessary equipment to ensure that bacteria are kept to an absolute minimum.
Botox and dermal filler treatments involve injections, which means a hole (albeit tiny) is made in the epidermis, which could allow for infections in a less than sanitised environment. Of course, the needles used for Botox and dermal fillers are usually provided as single-use syringes, but even so, it is important to London cosmetic doctor Dr Joney de Souza that the room in which the injections are performed is also cleaned to the highest standards between patients, to minimise any risk.
Trust me, I’m a doctor
Another major concern with the Botox app is the impersonal service it provides. In the UK, Botox needs to be prescribed by a doctor before it can be administered, and this is not just a legal formality – it is important that you are seen by a trained cosmetic doctor, who can assess your suitability for the procedure and check for any contraindications.
With the Botox app, you might not know who is coming to your door, and the team here at our Mayfair aesthetic clinic feels it is very important that you do your research and have a good rapport with your cosmetic doctor before agreeing to undergo any aesthetic procedure.
So Dr Joney De Souza Aesthetic Clinic won’t be signing up to any home-visit Botox apps just yet, but if you want facial aesthetic treatments performed by an experienced cosmetic doctor in a clinical environment, do make an appointment to come and see us in our cosmetic clinic in Mayfair.
