Many people with darker skin, and particularly those with black skin, feel that they are unsuitable for laser hair removal, as historically the procedure works best on fairer skin tones. However, this no longer has to be the case, thanks to the latest Nd:YAG technology, as available here at Dr Joney De Souza Aesthetic Clinic in London.
How does it work?
With the most recent wave of Nd:YAG lasers, it has been found that the wavelength produced is absorbed poorly by the melanin in the skin, but sufficiently by that in the hair so that it can destroy the bulb of the hair without affecting the surrounding skin.
Which body parts is it suitable for?
Any you can think of! At Dr Joney De Souza Aesthetic Clinic in London, we have performed laser hair removal on legs, backs, bikini lines, faces, chests and armpits. The treatment is suitable for both men and women, and is a fantastic long term option, leaving you hair free for life.
How long does it take?
One treatment lasts approximately 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the area being treated – as a general rule, the larger the treatment area, the longer the treatment time. To achieve absolute smoothness, around four to six treatments are needed, spaced three to four weeks apart.
Am I suitable?
Before undergoing laser hair removal here at Dr Joney De Souza Aesthetic Clinic in London, we ask that all patients undergo a thorough consultation with the cosmetic doctor, to assess your skin type and medical history and discuss any possible side effects from the treatment. Darker skin tones are more prone to hyperpigmentation as a result of laser hair removal treatment, although this is rare, and will be discussed with the doctor at the point of consultation.
