PRP or Platelet Rich Plasma is also known as the Vampire Facial. It uses your own blood to trigger skin regeneration from within, as growth factors stimulate rejuvenation, encourage blood circulation and new collagen growth. PRP in London at Dr Joney De Souza Clinic can be combined with LED light to achieve an even more effective result.
This treatment is also excellent for stimulating hair growth and is a frequently considered treatment for hair loss. We also carry out PRP for hair loss in London at our clinic in Marylebone.
PRP - PLATELET RICH PLASMA THERAPY - FAQ
PRP also known as Dracula Therapy or Vampire Facial is a treatment which utilises our bodies own unique ‘self heal’ mechanism to repair and rejuvenate damaged skin and boost collagen. It can also be used to stimulate hair re-growth and has an 87% approval rating on Realself.
PRP is not a new treatment - platelet rich plasma injections have been around for decades, helping athletes to heal sports related injuries (they're particularly helpful at healing tendon damage) but increasingly the benefits of this treatment are being used in aesthetic medicine.
PRP treatment is carried out by Dr Joney De Souza at his clinic in London. During this treatment small amounts of your own blood will be taken and processed in a centrifuge which will separate the red blood cells from the platelet rich plasma. The platelet rich plasma, which is a concentrated formula of your own platelets rich in growth factors, is then injected into the treatment area. These growth factors are needed to repair the body, but are also valuable tools to fight the signs of ageing.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What can PRP do for me?
PRP is an effective treatment for improving skin texture and repairing sun damage. Skin becomes luminescent, hydrated, nourished, and firmer and texture is improved.
Who is suitable?
You will be invited for a medical consultation to assess your suitability for this treatment.
What’s the treatment like?
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a by-product of blood (plasma) that is rich in platelets.
Dr Joney De Souza will take a small amount of your blood and place this in a centrifuge to separate the red blood cells from the platelet rich plasma containing growth factors. The plasma is then re-injected into treatment area – it can be administered either in multiple micro-injections, like Mesotherapy or Dermal Hydrating Treatments, directly into lines and wrinkles, like a filler, or deeper into the dermis, like a volumiser.
The process should be no more painful than any other injectable procedure, but the treatment area might be numbed beforehand with a topical local anaesthetic cream. Some practitioners combine this with other ‘self-heal’ treatments, like Medical Micro-Needling to enhance the results.
What happens afterwards?
There might be a small amount of redness or swelling at injection site, but this should fade quickly. You might also have some bruising where the blood was taken, but again this won’t last. One thing to avoid is taking aspirin or any anti-inflammatory drugs. This isn’t a one-off treatment – a course of treatments is usually recommended and it might take up to six months for the results of platelet rich plasma therapy to show, but the real benefit is that they should be permanent.
Improvement of skin texture and tone are noticeable within three weeks. Full collagen regeneration takes three months.
