PRP For Hair Loss Treatment Summary

Every PRP Hair Loss treatment at Dr Joney De Souza Clinic begins with a comprehensive consultation. During this appointment, Dr Joney and his expert team will take time to understand your goals, assess your skin condition and discuss the areas you would like to improve.
Dr Joney or his associates will explain how PRP works, what results you can expect, and whether combining it with treatments such as microneedling or LED may further enhance your outcome.
Once your personalised plan is agreed, a small sample of your blood is gently collected and placed into a centrifuge to isolate the platelet-rich plasma. The skin is then cleansed, and a topical anaesthetic may be applied to ensure comfort. Using precise injection or microneedling techniques, Dr Joney introduces the concentrated growth factors back into the skin to stimulate repair, boost collagen and promote healthier, more radiant tissue. The procedure is safe, natural and minimally invasive, with little discomfort.
After your PRP treatment, you can usually return to your normal day straight away. Mild redness, swelling or sensitivity may occur, particularly if microneedling was used, but this typically settles within 24 to 48 hours. As the growth factors begin to work, the skin gradually becomes smoother, firmer and more revitalised.
Dr Joney and his team will provide tailored aftercare advice, including avoiding strenuous exercise, heat treatments and active skincare products for the first 24 to 48 hours. Many patients choose to book a series of sessions for optimal results, with improvements continuing to develop over the following weeks as collagen production increases. With regular maintenance, PRP helps support long-term skin quality, leaving you with a fresher, naturally rejuvenated appearance.

No. While both PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) and PRF (Platelet Rich Fibrin) use your own blood to stimulate hair growth, they are processed differently and behave differently in the scalp. PRP is spun at higher speeds and releases growth factors quickly after injection, delivering a strong but shorter burst of stimulation to weakened hair follicles. It can help slow shedding and improve thickness in early stage hair loss.
PRF is spun more gently and contains additional regenerative components, including white blood cells and fibrin. The fibrin forms a natural scaffold that allows growth factors to be released more slowly and steadily over time. For hair restoration, this sustained release may provide longer follicle support and improved scalp quality. Both treatments can be effective, but PRF is often considered a more advanced regenerative option for ongoing hair thinning.
PRP (platelet-rich plasma) for hair loss is a treatment utilising plasma prepared from the patient’s own blood. The platelet rich plasma contains growth factors and bioactive proteins (globulin, albumin, fibrinogen), nutrients, vitamins, hormones and electrolytes which speed up tissue repair and regeneration. The treatment increases hair density and reduces hair loss to normal levels. Improvements are seen within 90 days, with hair growth continuing to improve in some patients over 6 months. Results have been seen in patients with androgenetic alopecia and with alopecia areata and is suitable for men and women.
You will be invited for a medical consultation with our friendly team in Marylebone, London to assess your suitability for PRP or PRF treatments.
Both PRF (Platelet Rich Fibrin) and PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) are regenerative treatments that use your own blood to stimulate healing, collagen production and tissue repair. However, they are not the same.
The key difference lies in how the blood is processed.
PRP is spun at higher speeds in a centrifuge and contains concentrated platelets suspended in plasma. An anticoagulant is added to prevent clotting. Once injected, PRP releases growth factors relatively quickly, creating a more immediate but shorter burst of regenerative activity.
PRF, by contrast, is spun at lower speeds and no anticoagulant is used. This preserves more of the natural components of your blood, including white blood cells and fibrin. The fibrin forms a delicate scaffold within the tissue, allowing growth factors to be released more slowly and steadily over time.
In simple terms:
PRP delivers a faster release of growth factors
PRF provides a slower, more sustained release
PRF contains additional regenerative components beyond platelets
Because of this slower release profile, PRF is often considered more advanced for certain indications such as under eye rejuvenation, skin quality improvement and hair restoration.
At a clinic like Dr Joney’s in Marylebone, both PRP and PRF can be used strategically, sometimes even alongside treatments like UltraClear or Endolift, depending on whether the goal is surface refinement, structural tightening or regenerative support.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a by-product of blood (plasma) that is rich in platelets.
Dr Joney De Souza will take a small amount of your blood and place this in a centrifuge to separate the red blood cells from the platelet rich plasma containing growth factors. The plasma is then re-injected into treatment area, it can be administered either in multiple micro-injections, like Mesotherapy or Dermal Hydrating Treatments, directly into lines and wrinkles, like a filler, or deeper into the dermis, like a volumiser.
The process should be no more painful than any other injectable procedure, but the treatment area might be numbed beforehand with a topical local anaesthetic cream. Some practitioners combine this with other ‘self-heal’ treatments, like Medical Micro-Needling to enhance the results.
There might be a small amount of redness or swelling at injection site, but this should fade quickly. You might also have some bruising where the blood was taken, but again this won’t last. One thing to avoid is taking aspirin or any anti-inflammatory drugs. This isn’t a one-off treatment – a course of treatments is usually recommended and it might take up to six months for the results of platelet rich plasma therapy to show, but the real benefit is that they should be permanent.
Improvement of skin texture and tone are noticeable within three weeks. Full collagen regeneration takes three months.
